Superintendent of Guam Department of Education (GDOE), Jon Fernandez speaks to Patti about two big topics in the making the news rounds on Guam: in-school vaccinations for students to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 on campus, and the budget shortfall. On the topic of vaccinations, though Department of Public Health & Social Services (DPHSS) would like to have COVID-19 vaccinations available during school hours, Fernandez feels this would cause a disruption in instruction time, adding he felt respective parents should be present for any student vaccination. On the other hand, on the topic of the budget shortfall, Fernandez explains the “two sides of the funding equation”, with one being local and the other being federal.
